Julie has over 35 years of experience as a nurse, mostly within the NHS. She has also worked in charitable and private organizations across the full range of health care, including Primary Care, Community Care, Secondary Care, Tertiary Care, Clinical Commissioning Groups/Integrated Care Boards, and forensic services.
For the last twelve years, she has specialized in Safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act. Her most recent position was as Associate Director for Safeguarding (Midwifery, Children, and Adults), Learning Disability, Mental Health, and Dementia, encompassing all age groups.
Over the past 12 years, it has become apparent that patients who have experienced trauma in their lives are not necessarily afforded equitable health care, especially if they are neuro-diverse. Different ways of commissioning a service were researched, leading to a meeting with Kerry, who shared a passion for providing information to support good commissioning of services for people who have experienced trauma.
Kerry Corbett is the Trauma Informed Specialist providing specific training regarding trauma informed skills and suicide and ligature prevention training . Kerry also runs her own business, Neuro Diverse & Trauma Consultancy Ltd.
Kerry is a qualified psychologist and practicing/registered psychotherapist in integrative therapies, has over 35 years of personal and professional experience in trauma. As a trauma survivor, Kerry developed Complex PTSD and healed herself through education and therapy.
Kerry has had a successful career helping others overcome stigmatizing labels and symptoms to lead fulfilling lives. She has worked with individuals suffering from issues including Complex PTSD, PTSD, developmental trauma/adverse childhood experiences, severe mental health disorders, and a range of personality disorders often comorbid with suicidal feelings.
Karen McCulloch has been a dedicated and influential leader in health and social care, specialising in the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) since December 2008. Before assuming her current role as MCA Lead for an Integrated Care Board, Karen worked as an MCA/DoLS (Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards) Coordinator for a local authority Supervisory Body.
As the MCA Lead for an Integrated Care Board, Karen oversees the implementation and adherence to the MCA across health services. This includes providing guidance and support to healthcare professionals to ensure compliance with the Act. Karen is instrumental in developing and delivering training programs aimed at enhancing the understanding and application of the MCA in working practice for health practitioners, using case law to underpin new ways of working.
Wendy has been specializing in children’s safeguarding for 13 years and also been a consultant. Her current work includes forensic medicine, and very complex child protection cases. Wendy has a wealth of knowledge and experience within Safeguarding. Her training style is designed to get participants involved and show individuals understand their safeguarding responsibilities.
